Erika Johnson

Erika leads the Vizient Research Institute’s annual economic research studies which focus on macroeconomic issues challenging the US health care delivery system. Anchored in rigorous quantitative analysis, Vizient’s economic research studies involve identifying financial and strategic implications to help support academic medical centers and community-based health systems in the movement toward a more sustainable and affordable health care system. Erika works regularly with health systems’ senior executives to help guide strategic planning and business development activities through customized analyses and diagnostic tools that will allow them to respond appropriately to the rapidly changing health care delivery system. She has extensive experience in providing strategic thought leadership, conceptualization of research investigations, design and management of complex quantitative analyses, facilitation of meetings and discussions, and development of case studies and publications.

Erika has served in successive leadership positions at Vizient, Inc (formerly UHC) over the last 19 years. Prior to joining Vizient, she worked with the University of Michigan Health System and completed a postgraduate administrative fellowship. She managed the Nuclear Medicine Clinic operations and administrative staff and led several executive-level projects across the hospital, medical school and research enterprises working directly with the hospital’s CEO and the medical school’s executive associate dean. Erika has also held administrative positions in strategic planning/business development, case management, utilization review and discharge planning with other teaching hospitals in Southeast Michigan.

Erika holds a bachelor of science in biology and a master of health services administration from the University of Michigan.
